Craftmanship

I have recently been working on a new endeavor.  I took a videography class and as my final project I  decided to do a short documentary film.  I really haven’t done much work in video so this was definitely a new venture.  If you have taken a look at any of my previous work you know that I love exploring things from  past times.  One of the first things I decided was that I wanted to document something that celebrated the beauty of antiquity.  Craftmanship fit that description for me exactly.  The form that took for my documentary was a museum and historic park called Burritt on the Mountain.

My documentary focuses on the historic park aspect of Burritt on the Mountain.  Specifically, some of the staff and volunteers who still practice crafts and skills from the 19th century.  I met so many interesting people and their stories and abilities were quite beautiful.  One of things I can appreciate about what they do is the beauty and intrigue associated with learning and practicing the process of a craft.  I do some work in the darkroom and seeing other people passionately practice their chosen skills and crafts was extremely fascinating to me.

Anyone who practices a craft will probably know exactly what I’m talking about when I say sometimes the process is as beautiful, if not more so, than the finished product.  There is something captivating about the work, the joy of it, the frustration.  I hope this documentary is small glimpse into that and my journey into the craftsmanship of creating a documentary.  Please enjoy Craftmanship:  The Art Of Working With Your Hands.
